Greetings Rusty, thanks for your great site! I’ve been married to my Filipina wife for 2 1/2 years and have lived in PH for 3. We just gave birth to our first child 3 months ago.
What do you know about getting our baby citizenship and registered with the US? Obviously she is 100% resident and citizen of PH. My wife has never been to the states and we do not plan to even move there permenately. Maybe just vacation is all.
What kind of things need to be done with the Social Security Admin. and other US government agencies to get her recongized as my child/dependant.
Thanks Rusty! If your’re not sure of these questions, pls refer me to another Expat or Filipino that might know.
I’ve researched these topics and it is a good topic. I will try to do it again but the information will go in the eBook. I don’t remember the exact answers.
For you wife, I do not think you can’t claim her until she is in the USA. Now that is from memory. Your daughter though you can get a taxpayer identification number, its not a TIN the exact terminology escapes me. If I’m correct, you’ll also be forced into the married filing separate but that is a problem too as they require you to enter you’re wife’s tax ID number, usually a SSN.
I remember a guy going through this, he got his children approved but could not get his wife approved for that number. If you don’t want to hire a CPA then get ready to spend some time on the phone with the IRS and the SSA. :)
Sorry, I just do not recall the exact answers, I would share if I knew. You might even find them on Cebu Experience. It wouldn’t surprise me if I wrote about it and forgot about it. :)
Hi Rusty,
I like your new site, been watching it for a couple years now.
We live just a float away from Bogo in Palompon.
I need help finding a nice rental home in Bogo.
Is there a service for this there, or anybody you can refer me to.
Thanks, Rick
