Christian Stereotypes

A few weeks ago, I watched some political satire on You Tube, it was good stuff.  It was a bit condescending in tone.  It was the elitist left we hear so much about. There is a lot of WRONG, ideas that all of us born again Christians lean to the right.  Jesus was way to the left of the political spectrum.  I have been distressed by some on both the right and the left that seem to believe that all Christians hold positions like those of  the Christian Coalition or the Moral Majority.  I can assure you, all, nor even most think that way.  Christianity is not about judging others, it is about loving them!

I tend to the left but I’m really more of a civil libertarian. To some that may seem strange as some place civil libertarians to the far right or think they are for chaos. I certainly am not for chaos.  I’m for as little government as possible.  Some think the Republicans have an inside line to God, mostly the Republicans.  Some think, Democrats are Godless and many times it is the Democrats that think that.

What Government Should Be

But I realize that we need government in our civilization, to keep fairness in the civilization, to provide security from external and internal entities that would like to impose their views on the rest of us, a monetary system, building infrastructure and other things that the people are not best suited to handle.

I intend to write a series of stories about Christians and what some of us believe about abortion, government, prayer in school, stem cell research and other hot button topics.    Some of these require a lot of research, such as stem cell research.  I have to get back up to speed on that topic.  I’ll say I’m for it but I want to get more facts about where the state of the science is.  I certainly don’t want to see humans cloned but I think it will happen.  No government can stop it. The US sometimes acts like it is the entire world.

Lot of topics here that will make people angry.  I’m going to try to avoid that but I would love to see the opinions of others, heated but hopefully not hateful discussion.

I don’t really know if I’m Typical or Atypical Christian. I’ve heard a lot of people that sound off like the more vocal Christians, both in public and one in private.  But I know of some that are more in line with my ideas.   I don’t claim to be an expert, I might have some insights, I think I do but then it is hard to judge ones own ideas objectively.  I usually get there objectively but once I form an opinion, I pretty much stick to it like a bulldog. :)  Though I tend to be stubborn, I will come around if you present facts to show me I’m wrong.  Personal attacks though, they don’t work.  Something in my brain makes it hard for me to even read them.  I don’t say that is a good thing, just the way I am.

I really do want to hear form people that do not agree with me but if you want to tell me I’m right, hey, my ego can take it. LOL
