Steven Hawking says there is no God because before the big bang that created the universe there was no time. Since there was no time there could be no time for God to create the universe.
Come on Steven, you’re way to smart to be that limited in your thinking. Two obvious possibilities come to mind
:
- Parallel Universe
- God Is Timeless
Why in heavens name would God be limited to a concept invented by man? Time is a man made concept. We can change the unit of time and I have no doubt that we will. We will if we survive long enough to come up with the need for a “Star Date” or other such name and time concept.
I can’t explain how God could exist or when but I also cannot say because I don’t know something doesn’t mean it is not true. I once had a co-worker that told me his logic could never be wrong. He might have the wrong facts but his logic would never be wrong. Well, there they go again… Of course human logic can be wrong including his. But even this man that seems to think he’s a god knew his facts could be wrong. Steven, you don’t know everything. I think that’s a hypothesis that we could both agree on. :)
What about a parallel universe? Couldn’t God have been in a parallel universe were time did exist and create it from there? Or does the positive and negative energy required to create a universe also create the parallel and thus one could not exist without the other. I don’t pretend to know. However, I don’t think anyone else would know all the possibilities either. I say God could have had time in another “universe” or space that we are totally unaware of.
However, I really rely mostly on my idea of God is timeless. If God had the same limits to time that we have how could he possibly handle all the things that come up in a instance of time. He couldn’t. Thus, it is my concept of God that He is in fact timeless. So God didn’t need time to create time. That is what a God is, able to create anything. All things come from God. Though it is a concept of man, God created the instance of time as we think of it.
I’ve been calling you Steven because I like you Mr. Hawking. I’m not going to hate you because you came up with your idea like so many other Christians that I’ve seen on FaceBook do. In fact, to them, I would say “Oh ye of little faith.”
I like you but your thinking is limited, perhaps to science. You did not disprove God but I can’t prove him either. Heck, I can’t prove me, I could be a figment of your imagination or you could be one of mine. We could all be living in an illusion. :)
Mr. Hawking, I enjoyed your show on Discovery. I’ve watched it before and I will likely watch it again since my mind wanders at times and I’m sure I missed some things. It made me think and I live to think. Perhaps not to the same degree as you do. You’re a very smart man Mr Hawking but you’re wrong on this one. Or, better said, you’ve not proven anything. You simply didn’t take into account all the possibilities. How are you going to test your hypothesis? How will you control variables that we cannot yet comprehend? I wish I was smart enough to look into the concept of timelessness. Dig a little deeper Mr Hawking, you’ve not worked it all out yet.
