Blood Sugar Rising
My blood sugar has not been doing so great lately. I’ve started taking Actos again and there has been no low blood sugars. Perhaps taking it will help decrease my blood sugars and get it back down.
I’ve been fairly active. I plan to walk in a couple of hours if it does not rain too much. Only threatening to do so right now. It threatens more than it
does so. We are approaching summer or the dry season but its okay with me if it stays cloudy all the time. Less sun means less heat. I’m anti-heat!
I’m afraid once again that I am headed for insulin. Its probably only a matter of time. If it would help me loose weight, I’m all for it. Whatever it takes that doesn’t kill me is a good thing as far as I can see.
This morning it was 135 on fasting which is good for a diabetic but its been higher than that the two prior mornings. It has been 175 both mornings and right now its 235. I ate more for breakfast than I usually do. I double dipped. Eggs with Macaroni and Cheese.
Okay so that’s a little strange but the eggs were just not enough today. The mac and cheese probably pushed my blood sugar up. It has not been good the last few times I checked and now I’m back to taking all the diabetic meds I was when I got here, well except for Precose. I can’t get that here.
I admit I’m afraid to go on insulin living out here in the province. Maybe its not as scary as I think it is. I’m afraid of low blood sugars. I’d rather stay out of the hospital. Low blood sugars can send a diabetic to one.
Its probably a loosing battle, I don’t know if I’ll ever get back up to walking an average of one and a half miles per day. Maybe thats what it takes. That would be better than insulin. It was also be better than all these meds. I’m just going to have to push myself. I think I’m averaging 1.5 miles every other day. Seems like that would be enough!
These cold showers tend to cause me not to walk. I just really need to get over that and take those cold showers!

Don’t give up on walks, that is probably the best medicine you can get.
I do it all the time here in Canada.
Everyday I go out for a walk. Sometimes I have to boot my rear-end but I always do it. I admit it is easier to walk in cold weather (-10C) than to walk in heat but I have an excellent alternative for that.
Every day during hot summer months I go bicycling. I usually wait until late in the day and when the sun is almost gone I go out with my bicycle. Love the feel of windy warm air on my face, just marvellous. I don’t even perspire because I do it when the sun is almost gone.
Walking is no fun in heat but bicycling at dusk (or very early in the morning) is just great. Try it and you will be thankful for this simple suggestion,… GUARANTEED !!!
Actually, if I would have to choose between walking and bicyling, I would not hesitate for a second to take the latter.
Don’t make the classical mistake and get a stationnary bicycle as you will quickly get tired of it.
It is quite unlikely that you will get tired of the real thing.
If you do it 20 to 30 min per day it will be plenty to keep you in shape, perhaps even insulin free.
Hopefully Bogo has a few suitable streets for bicycling.
One last suggestion : pay extra for a large comfortable seat. I have one and really appreciate it.
Hey Robert, I have a new found determination for walking. I’m afraid my physical condition and health take more effort than a 30 minute bike ride.
I checked my pedometer and I’ve actually did average a mile a day last month. Not enough of it aerobic perhaps. I walked 1.9 miles yesterday and 2.6 today. The 1.9 was all aerobic about 1.5 miles of todays 2.6 miles was aerobic. Its the cold freaking showers I need after my walks that make it hard. But the cold showers wont kill me, the diabetes and the weight will.
My body has been ravaged by the medication ussed to treat lupus. It may not be possible for me to get this weight off but I’m gong to try. My muscle have had a lot of damage from the Prednisone and probably from the inflammation as well.
I’ll just walk at least 1.5 miles per day for at least 5 days a week. A nice 10 speed would be great but you know what, I’ve not seen a good area to ride in here. For me a good place would be peaceful and the way the traffic is, that just doesn’t describe the roads I know in Bogo. Maybe on Bantayn Island at certain times. Driving is one of the more stressful things about the Philippines.
I use to ride a bike a LOT in high school, yes lost weight and really enjoyed it. I rode it all the time, used it to quite smoking. I later started back though.
