Expatriate or Expatriot?
I get a lot of questions about how I could leave the USA and move to another land where I have no family and no friends. A couple of days ago I received an email asking if I would be returning to the states since Obama won the election.
My leaving the US had nothing to do with politics, I do greatly prefer American politics. There are lots of reasons why people leave their home land and most of the time it is not because they have issues with their home land. I think in most cases, the people that leave their home countries for that reason will find plenty to not like in their new country.
Live In The Philippines
Philippine Expat Webmasters Working Together
About a month ago, Bob Martin web developer of Live In The Philippines.com and several other sites left a comment on the site and sent me an email. I noticed his email address was that of a Philippine province dot com which immediately got my attention. I thought it must have been some kind of shared domain but he actually owned it. Which told me he’d been around for a while and grabbed up a lot of the better domains.
Outspoken Expat Equals Deported Expat?
Leave the US and Say Good-Bye to Freedom of Speech
It is important to remember that when you leave the US and visit or live in a foreign country it is important to know and follow the rules of the country that you are visiting. When you travel you are generally still subject to US law but while you’re in the foreign country it is that countries laws that you are obligated to follow.
Random Thoughts, Scleroderma?
Let me see what is going on in my brain…
Presidential Politics 2008
Obama’s 30 minute commercial…. Seems like a risky thing to do when you’re as far in the lead as he is. The press is trying to make it sound close to keep us all interested. Have you seen the crowds he’s drawing? Have you heard of the money he’s raised from regular Americans like you and I? How does he do that? Cause its not as close as the closest polls indicate. It is going to be a complete blow out. The American people have seen what this so called Republican limited government is.
Rusty and Jessie Nine Months and Counting
Wow I’ve been In The Philippines for Nine Months
I’ve been forgetting my “weekly” self-portrait, pretty much forgetting my hair cuts too. LOL I hate hair cuts but the guy did a good one for me this time. A couple of weeks ago I guess. I keep putting them off, don’t know why I hate them so much. I don’t like that much attention, especially in public.
Jessie and I went for a walk today. And at the halfway point I thought to take a picture of us together. Kind of hard to do, I suppose if I did it more often I’d bet better at it.
Having Fun In The Philippines
Went out and had some fun tonight. Finally went to a video karaoke bar, not quite the right name for them but close enough for someone that drank too much beer. :)
Jessie and I went to Seaside BBQ and then on over to the Karaoke Bar. Jessie and I are too chicken to sing but our friend Aileen and Greg.
Internet Connection Via Globe
My internet connection since coming the the Philippines has been weak at best. The Smart Internet we had in Talisay wasn’t too bad. The Globe Internet we have had in Bogo City has been horrible since day one until yesterday.
Hospital Visit Postponed Again
Medical Issues For an Expat
I finally got my mind set for it. I finally accepted I needed to do it and couldn’t get out of it. Then i called the insurance company to make sure everything was setup. I asked if I had a $100 deductible and was told I had a $100 per day deductible. I could have sworn that had been done away with. I just can’t justify spending $300 to $500 right now. There are too many other issues. I will look into the possibility of different insurance but I’m probably stuck with what I have for now and there may be nothing better. Hard to say, what I need in the states may be different from here. I’d have to pay 20% of a hospital room in the states, but $100 will pay for about three days in a Philippine Hospital so 20% would be better unless there was some kind of surgery then perhaps I’m better off with the $100 per day.
Politics of Fear
Politics of Fear
As you probably know, congressional leadership has been working with the president’s office to devise an “economic bailout plan” needed to prevent a massive meltdown of the US economy. A deal has been reached but many members of congress are not happy.
Even a republican is labeling the deal reached as
Fox News is Propaganda
Fox News, The Voice of The Right
I use to wonder why Keith Olbermann of MSNBC would attack Fox News for its right winged slant but now I understand why. It seemed hypocritical to me as Olbermann is left leaning and obviously supportive. However, that’s the key, Olbermann and others on MSNBC are obvious in their support of the left wing or right wing. That is another important issue. MSNBC has host that are both leaning to the right and left where Fox News, better called Fox Noise, is solidly right wing and worse, they don’t make it clear. Instead they report as fact things that are not fact in order to promote the right wing agenda.
