Alice Cooper
Alice Cooper
At first I wondered if I should include a page on Alice Cooper here. Then I thought and realized how could a site about me not include a significant amount of information about Alice Cooper. I have been a rabid Alice Cooper fan for more than 30 years.
I’ve never spoke to him, yet he has spoke to me many times, through his lyrics and stage antics. Alice, I get the message. Many fans don’t and that’s okay. There’s many sides to Alice Cooper and enough sides for all the fans to get something from him. Sometimes I get a little bothered that so many miss the positive message in Alice’s music. That positive message has been there for a long time.
The last time I saw Alice Cooper live was back in 2002. In October to be exact. That is way too long. He stopped coming to my city, the city of Memphis. Now I’m in the Philippines and Alice is so not right for the Philippines.
I have another site, Sickthing.com, that is devoted to Alice Cooper. However, I’ve done very little work on it for quite some time. I have big plans but the task is so monumental, I’ve been discouraged from starting. I need to just start and work on it as I go. I want it to be about those hidden meanings to his lyrics. The message behind the madness.

Yes he lives here in Phoenix. I’ve never met him but he does local TV and Radio spots.
I think to meet him the best thing to do is first know when he is touring, your not likely to meet him while on tour. When he is not on tour, spend some time at Cooperstown. I’ve got a really nice guitar that I would like to have him sign in person. It already has his signature on it but I didn’t obtain it personally. Being a fan, I’d find a way to meet him. Book signing, charity event or something. I’d very likely go to the Christmas Pudding show he does and pay the fees to be in the VIP group that goes to charity.
As soon as he does those local ads, they are usually posted on the net for the fans to download. :)
I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan like you but it is interesting he is from here. I wouldn’t mind meeting him though. He opened for the Stones when they had their concert here. I’m sure you know that already. He’s doing radio spots for AAMCO right now.
I’ve had a website for years about Alice but it has had content at times and others it does not. It doesn’t have much right now but there are pictures of my Alice Inspired guitar. Take a look at it. http://www.sickthing.com
You mentioned about Alice Cooper singing “you sick thing” – and all along I thought he was singing “you sexy thing!” LOL! Guess which Republican had the highest life expectancy in the 2oth century? Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t that Ronnie Reagan?.
Hmm, its not “you sick thing” Its just “Sick Things.”
Now remember he was poking fun at himself in this song and his fans too. :)
Oh, I must have been thinking of someone else’s song…
I have heard of Alice Cooper, my kids were watching him being interviewed on TV, would have been a few years ago. I remembered the name because I thought “what a funny name for a bloke”. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of this songs. I don’t know if his songs would have been my type. I liked the late cranky Frankie (Sinatra) though. Can anyone tell me who sang “you sexy thing”? I don’t even know if that really is the title, but this tune is kinda stuck on my head.
Hi Rusty!
I came across your website, researching American Expats in Cebu. I am hoping to get in contact with you in early June, when I relocate to Bohol.
Currently, I am in Phoenix, Arizona … and the interesting thing is that I DO KNOW Alice Cooper personally. He is a friend of mine, and owns Cooperstown sportsbar/restaurant in Tempe, Arizona! The first time I met him was late at night at a Walgreens Pharmacy. He stopped and greeted me in the Aisle, which it being so late … he didnt have to do! I have come to know him very well, and up till a year ago … had breakfast on thurdays with him and several other guys.
Back to my question … how do I find expats in Bohol? Also, is it possible to meet up with you in June? Take care and maybe we meet …
Best Regards,
Steven
Wow dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know man your worshippng material to me. LOL Well not quite and Alice wouldn’t like that either. :)
And your name is steven on top of that. If I ever move back to the states, I will look into moving to Phoniex just to have a chane to meet him!
And I would love to meet up with you in June. Once you get to Bohol, check out the hangouts where beer is cheap, you’re very likely to find expats there. I have found expats to more often than not to be alcoholics that like to sit around and complain. If I were you, I’d look harder for Filipino that don’t try to make a bank of you but if they help you give them P100, I mean from time to time if they provide a service to you and information is a service! Most expats are alcoholics. Now I’ve met some expats that I like a lot, even despite there excessive drinking but you’ll find some around that drink very little..
I feel like I’ve learned more than some expats that have been here for a long time that have not got out of their cars or tried to associate with Filipino. its hard as most don’t understand my southern accent at all. Most can’t speak or hear English but often they can write it if you text them.
I really want to go to Bohol but I wont be able to go there any time soon, if you can make it up to Bogo City though, I’d be happy to spend some time with you. I would be willing to do so even if you were not a friend of Alice Cooper.
Its odd that I never met the man but I do really love the guy, what he stands for and really always has stood for. Many of hs fans fail to understand his music. For some reason, even in my teens I connected and understood what it was he was trying to do. I’ll be honest with you, I love to get to meet him and hope someday, some way you can help me with that, but even if you didn’t know anything about Alice Cooper, I would welcome your friendship and help you however I could.
I have started offering a guide service. I charge only $20.00 or P1000 a day for it plus expenses for myself and my girl. Not trying to make a profit on it yet, just cover my expenses. Others charge $100 a day but I don’t have their knowledge so I’m a discount guide. LOL I’m on a tght budget so I cannot go all over the place and spend funds I just don’t have. I’ve blown my budget into chaos this month. :)
You don’t have to pay me a thing though to come to Bogo and just hangout from time to time. Someone else offered to use me as a guide and wants to be able to call on me at will and that’s different.
I will be in Bangkok for a few days near the middle of the month. My required 3 days out of the country. Use contact form in “The Breeze” to email me and I’ll get you my cell phone number when you get here. Cell Phone is required gear for the Philippines. Like a tent is for camping. :)
I never understood Alice Cooper at all. what was the draw of him, Rusty?
To fully appreciate Alice, you need to see him live. Alice was about shattering anything that was taboo in the early stages. Remember how odd it was in the 70′s to even call a guy Alice? It felt like you would catch something just by touching his eight track tape! :)
“She asked me why the singers name was Alice.” A lyric from a song. Its about asking why are things the way they are. Why can’t the be something else.
He moved on to attack the things most important to Americans, money, sex and death. “While others morn your sill grave, I have other uses for you my darling.” I think that song spoke sex without love. cadaver eyes see, NOTHiNG!” But even more, we all love the dead. James Dean only became “loved” after his death. Musicians have been exploring that strangess ever since.
Billion dollar babies was actually making fun of hismself and his fans, He was amused by his own fame.
The song “Dead Babies” is an anti child abuse song. Next time your child messes up and you want to wring there neck, think about “dead babies don’t take things off the shelf.” In other words, dead babies don’t break things or make mistakes, how lucky we are to have our babies, even when they foul up. That song got him a lot of hatred but for some reason, at 13 I understood what he was signing about.
His first commercial sucess album, “Caught in A Dream” was followed up with “Welcome to My Nightmare” as his first solo album. Which was about his addiction to alcohol
The mid 90′s to early 2000′s saw a triology of albums about his born agan experience. His albums are full of pain and love and high morals while acting like a madman. Sometimes you can make a better point by becoming what you are not. The three albums were “The Last Temptatiion,” “Brutal Planet” and “Dragon Town.” These albums included lyrics such as “What about Christ, what about God above?” As well as “I’m saved, and your lost, I’m born again.”
Like when Jonathan Swift wrote “A Modest Proposal” during racist times in the UK where the English looked down on the Irish and he proposed to solve the problem of their starvation they should just eat their children. The work brought outrage during its day, which is exactly what Swift intended, to make his point.
Sometimes Alice is just being funny and sometimes he just wants to rock. The song he wrote for “The Man With The Gold Gun” was hilarious. Too bad the movie makers picked up on what Alice was signing about. Aim lower…. But Alice was a major James Bond fan.
One of these days, maybe I’ll do my website on Alice. I need my CD’s here to really do it right.
Alice changed music and he totally changed live rock concerts. His influence is MUCH deeper than most realize. He is every where, especially in rock.
Michael Jackson basically stole Welcome to My Nightmare when he did Thriller. Dangerous and Bad are very much “Schools Out” but Welcome to MY Nightmare was even a movie and even included Vincent Price.
Alice is every where. But, Alice has always been about Good Vs. Evil and he was always on the side of good. His stuff is deep!
That is Alice Cooper in the video? My, if that’s what rock n’ roll does to you, I think I will stick to my mundane existence – even if it means nursing the “buangs” (crazy) in Oz.
I don’t know, Google serves tham up and not all of them are of Alice. Often it is people that influenced Alice or that he influenced. I’m going to guess you saw Iggy Pop but they are approaching their 70′s so I wouldn’t expect them to look all that great. :) Both Iggy and Alice are getting close.
Alice is still making new music. Most of the bands that are still touring from the 70′s don’t release new music.
Memphis has rich music scene. I got to see a lot of acts while there.
Alice Cooper is still an event. One has to be present to appreciate. He’s headed to Australia now. May hve done one show there this week, not certain.
If Alice is in Oz at the moment, I haven’t heard anything. Unless he’s here for private visits.
He’s not there yet. I only scanned the headlines. He will be there in July, as of now he has 9 concerts scheduled in Australia.
nice site lots great info.
thks

Hey again John. You might enjoy http://heyjoe.ph too. Hope you visit both often!
Hey Rusty,
I was never a big Alice Cooper fan, but I do enjoy his music, and understand his music. I got to see him back when he put out the album with the songs “Poison”, and “House of Fire” I believe were the songs, at the Capital Center outside of Washington, DC, I enjoyed it very much.
Take care my friend, and hope your moving around soon, and feel better,
Danny :)
Rusty, I was watching the food channel and Alice cooper promoting his restaurant. He was sooo proud of his three foot long hot dog.I think it was called dog from hell or something like that.Anyway, I was a surprise to see him after all these years. JC.
Hey JC
Alice is very active. New album last year on tour most of the time, usually stops around thanksgiving for a few months but not always. I wonder if they thought about naming it Alice’s Restaurant instead of Cooperstown. I think I would have gone with Alice… I have not seen those Food Channel shows. I suppose I should find them on the net.
