Rusty’s Cebu Experience
Most of my blogging is about my life in the Philippines. Particularly in the Filipino Province of Cebu. Though I’m constantly behind in my post on that site too, I’m far more current there than other places. Please visit Living in Cebu.
I am living in Bogo City, Philippines. A small city in Northern Cebu Province. It is a fishing village as many of my pictures will show. I’ve grouped my pictured by primarily in the month they were taken. But there will be some other groups. To view the pictures hold your mouse over the Photography button and they will be listed there by month or category.

Hey Sensi, Thanks for being my first commenter. My head can’t get any bigger if it did it would explode! LOL
How are you getting along with that monkey? I see you have several pictures with him. I remember the discussion on the other forum when you were thinking about getting him.
Yea. I miss being active on that forum but that’s the way it must be. The monkey is awesome. Since I got him I’ve learned that I got more than my money’s worth. It is obvious he was rescued. He right arm has been broken in the past. he has scare on his side and back. He has been neutered and he has had his fangs or canines pulled. He is a delight.
Though monkeys are not uncommon, they are far from common and tame monkeys that will give you love are very rare indeed. I take him with me on my walks now. He is quite the ice breaker. Sometimes the kids get a bit too excited though and that makes him nervous.
Today I took my video camera instead of my still cam and that really got the kids acting like monkeys. I will eventually start posting videos but I do not have the proper size firewire cable. I have tons of them, all back in the us.
The woes of the expat, starting over in so many ways.
hope you an jess are doing good, you took a giant step, good for you wish i had the courage but i may get to visit for a vacation someday

yes.Philippines is very beautiful,,Filipinos are kind..I was so sad how the international media describes my country..They dont appreciate the way Filipino lives and our norms of society…We are westernized but we are still attached to the way of kindness of our ancestrors..If youre going to interview a foreigner who decide to lives here,, they were going to tell you that life here is abundant. pHILIPPINES i s a promise land..Here, you can enjoy unlimited calls, surfing the net at very easy payment,,food is low cost,,you can call USA at 2 cents. per minutes or call for only 2 dollars for 24 hours call…wait,, ihave to go back to work
Those that don’t know about the Philippines should keep their mouths shut.
Even more, those that live here and speak poorly of it should leave.
How do you call the USA for 2cents per minute? I thought it was more like 20 cents.
I use Skype though so I call for free. :) Well $5.95 a month flat charge.
What are you waiting for? I don’t know if you’re still working…. Come here, meet a Filipina in real life, chances are good you’ll be back, possibly long term. If you come here, you will meet one.
Finding her on the net is not recommended. There are many Filipina earning an income, and much more than the President of the country makes from her salary alone, scamming guys for money. So doing that way is extremely risky.
Now you can come with a certain woman in mind, but have a backup plan, chances are good she’s a complete fake. Met one here, it isn’t hard, the only hard part is knowing if they are old enough to be looking at you the way they are looking at you. :)
As for me, anyone that knew me would have told my online friends that once I set my mind on something, it will happen. I too though decided that I wasn’t coming for Jessie. I was coming regardless of how things went with her and I.
One of the problems is that the girls are lied to so much that they don’t believe anything you say until you actually show up.
There are quite a few Brits here. I will be publishing an article on Live In The Philippines, probably later today that describes a lot of the changes most of us have to make but most of us find it is completely worth it. http://www.liveinthephilippines.com/content/ . You should have been here long ago!
here’s how,,,try to purchase a sun cellular sim card…calling USA is as low as 2 pesos per minute..Globe postpaid however,,, you can call from 11pm to 5am for only 99 pesos thats unlimited call….buts thats too late in the evening,,, morning in the US rigth?
I can’t get post paid here. I don’t have a Filipino credit card.
Smart called us to add an internet connection. We already have one from Globe. We were going to get it. Filled out the paperwork. Got the landlady to sign off on it. The application was approved and then they told us to wait. We’ve been waiting for more than a year. LOL
The post pay I’ve seen are expensive. I already have a phone but I can’t get post pay without getting a phone. I have a Samsung Blackjack. Its just as well, I’d probably make a few more Filipina mad if I sent more text. :)
I don’t mean to make them mad but I do.
its ok having a prepaid phone…besides theres a lot of loading station anywhere,,however if you want load yourself anytime,, when you are using a smart simcard..you just have to activate your load wallet,,,,for how long you are here in the philippines?
I usually don’t even load it. :) When I do, I get a 300 or 500 card. Its been a few months. I get my girlfriend to share a load with me. I usually don’t text much.
I’ve been here about 2.5 years now.
Hey Rusty!
Thought I would pass this along to you. Might help you to pick up some of the language. http://www.binisaya.com/cebuano/
Thanks, I found an book with audio the other day. Actually Jessie found it. I’mm trying to work out a deal to partner with them and offer the book for sale soon!
Hey Rusty,
I enjoy your wedsite & all the great info, thanks for sharing.
I have a major problem that maybe you can help me solve.
I’m engaged to a wonderful woman with a son from Cebu but she is still legally married even though seperated for six years.
The cost of an annulment is $2500 USD and takes up to 18 months.
We have not seen each other for over six months but are eager to get married.
Since I can’t get a financee visa to get her here we are going the working visa route. She is in school for Caregiver to graduate in July then another 3 to 6 months to get her green card & visa.
I moved to Cebu in September 08 only to have her husband go to the cops and say, “my wife is commiting adultry with a foreignor.”
I was forced to leave & give up my home to spare her & I from going to jail.
Although her husband has been living with a woman for several years and has a child with her.
I believe there must be an easier & faster way to get her here or for me to come ove there so we can be together and get married.
I have read that sometimes you can pay a government offical to find marriage certificate & destroy it for a fee.
My question is. There must be someone who can help us out of this delima whether it be a smart lawyer, government offical, private investegator, professional, or regular person.
I figure if I am recommended by someone such as yourself or someone you recommend I limit the danger of a scam.
Any and all information by you, anyone you know, or your reader will be welcome.
Thank you!
John
yes,, you pay an intelligent lawyer or any public official if youre going to talk privately and with money involve but thats very rare and that can only be happen when you are a relatives or a friend because filipinos are always family centered…However try to talk with youre fiance what is the status of your relationship and her relationship to her former husband. Since his former husband is already engaed in another woman also,,you can also blame him for adultery..Why not try to talk with the same party so you can solve the problem…why not try searching for single Filipina?so it will be less complicated?
John, first of, where are you? I was just talking to my Policeman brother about this issue a few days ago. If the husband abandoned your wife, she could have charged him with Abandonment under the RPA (Republic of the Philippines Acct) 7016. If there was physical abuse, she could tag RPA 9016 on that too. Ideally she should have done this before he became aware you are on the scene. It is likely he will turn this around, because he’s already accused her first. My advice is get a good lawyer who has experience in family law. As for deleting marriage records, I think in this computerized age, it will be impossible to delete this without a trace. I could be wrong?
If you were in PI last year, surely 18 months is not that far away?
Another option is to go back there (if you haven’t been banned) and just stay as a tourist, not live together but see each other as much as you can until the annulment is through. Preferably not in Cebu though, because if he knows you’re back, then you’ve got the same problem as last year. I heard Leyte or Bohol are very nice places. Unless you fancy joining Rusty in Bogo? :) It’s a real nice place too.
Finding someone to pay off here in MOST cases is way overblown. I have not had anyone ask me for money yet to do something like that. If you could do it, talking about it in public wouldn’t be a good thing. :)
What you’re talking about is fraud, I wouldn’t do it and then have to live in fear for the rest of your life wondering if anyone will blow your cover. The husband likely would.
I’m going to respond to the rest of this in email.
How’s your Lupus treating you. If you are living life right then hopefully you should be in remission as I am. Lots of massages, clean living and hopefully less stress are good solution to this disease. Good luck to you
Corey, mine is not so bad, but….. people can’t control this disease by “clean living” maybe I don’t understand what you mean.
I’d hate to think an old school Christian would come along and think their illness is a punishment from God.
I know people think that way but it is not based on what is in the bible, but rather people preaching crazy mind control stuff about what they think is right.
Children get lupus, I’ve had it since I was a child and my body was screaming at me about it at the age of 10. I couldn’t have been too dirty back then. :)
Oh I wasn’t aware it hit you so young so I guess the clean living argument doesn’t hold much water. I am an atheist and think all religion should be banned so God isn’t in the equation for me….. just common sense. Well, best of success to you and stay out of the Sun LOL.
Being without aircon because of the brownouts is hard on me. I keep bursting out with blisters on my lower legs.
I went out yesterday without sun screen… dumb…
I get carbuncles and find using antibiotic like Cloxacillin and bactoban ointment works good and they go away in a week or so. Really painful. sucks
You know, the doctors say this is not related to lupus but I am pretty darn sure they are wrong. Lot of people with lupus get them. I often get more than one time. I don’t think the ointments are doing you any good. They don’t me, I have to go on oral antibiotics when I get them. I run fevers with them too if I don’t treat it.
They can be the source of some pretty serious pain.
