Cold Showers Are No Fun
Wow the water is cold! Its been cloudy for three days and rained most of last night leaving the water at the lowest temperature yet or at least it felt that way.
I’m getting ready to go for a walk, so now of course, the sun comes back out. :) Will only be a mile probably as we are going to Prince
Warehouse and might have things to carry back. Jessie might have plans for something, she seems to be keeping it a secret. :)
I just need a jar to put my sugar free candy in to keep the ants out of it. Last month we found a whole in it. I’m thinking the ants just chewed through it. Okay, that’s a hyperbole but if you knew how these ants like to chew on me you’d understand.
Instead of a shower, Jessie had filled a bucket with water last night. The bathroom door is usually kept close because she likes for it to be hot in there and thus the water is warmer. However, after a few moments, I heard a splash and then I heard a scream. Seems it was cold in the bucket too.
One of my least favorite things about the Philippines. Probably my least favorite things about the Philippines. As I’ve said before, its a pretty minor thing. The water is usually a lot warmer than it is today. I may end up taking a second shower late this afternoon. Depends on how hot I get on my walk.
I’m trying to decide if I’m going to go out tonight. Been several days since I’ve been down to the BBQ by the Bogo Bay. And its Sunday so I’ll allow myself to smoke a cigar, two if I can get them down.
I may not continue this cigar thing. I don’t like what it does to my mouth. It seems a little raw for a day sometimes two days after smoking. Mouth cancer isn’t really a fun thing from what I’ve heard. :)
Jessie is watching her CSI {gag} show. I’m not too much into fiction and this is clearly fiction. She’d watch it 24 hours a day if I wouldn’t go insane from it. :)

I thought the water couldn’t get any colder but clearly I was wrong. I went for my walk. Needed another shower and it was really cold despite the sun coming out this afternoon. It was very hot on my walk but not in the shower! OUCH.
Hi Rusty!
Thought I might mention that there is a inexspensive water heater available in PI. The one that we have is yellow, about the size of a soup can, and has an electrical cord. You place it down in your bucket of water and wait a few minutes and you will have hot water. Warning! Do not touch the water while unit is plugged in to check tempature. That really sucks! Highly recommend unplugging unit first. Marie bought this for me before my first visit because she knows how spoiled kanos are.
By the fifth bucket the water feels better or at least your body will be numb by then. Good luck. Happy valentine day two days late.
I don’t care for the bucket method. They make “cheap” water heaters attached to the shower too. P4000 to P15000, I can’t find the P4000 ones any more or I’d probably have one. I’ll have to get someone to install it too. I’m not willing to spend any extra money at this time. I will eventually get one. I’m just not willing to spend any more money on that kind of thing until I get my furniture paid off. I’m paying 60% interest on it. Never again…. :)
Its time for me to leave the country for three days, well it will be in June. That’s my number one priority right now. Not spending on extra’s until I have three times as much cash as I need.
Now yesterday if I had had one of the devices your talking of Tom R I would have used it but most of thee time I have my own way of easing into the water that makes it bearable, sometimes it feels great. Yesterday was the worst yet though.
I might buy one of those devices your speaking of Tom but it would be more for Jessie.
It has been unusually cool for the last few months but that is going to end soon. I was here last year and it was much warmer than this.
where do you find and buy that yellow soup can plug in water heater and how much does it cost?
Hi Maria,
You can get them at Citi Hardware in Mandaue. I don’t know the price. Well, at least they did have them. I think under P1000, someone told me once but I just don’t recall. Not what I want.
Marie said she bought the portable heater at SM mall. The cost was around three hundred pesos.
At SM Mall would PROBABLY mean ACE Hardware, not a bad place to buy a water heater, you can usually get one of the workers to install it, based on what others have done. Of course you should tip them, P100 would be plenty I think. No installation needed for the ultra size coffee maker…. :) I had a couple of these when I was a kid, they were to heat water up in a cup to make coffee I think was the intent. I’m guessing these water heater one puts in the dunker/bucket is much like that just on a much bigger and longer lasting scale.
Hi Russ, I work as a nurse here in Oz. Recently I had a patient who had sores in her tounge and mouth, apparently they were cancerous, so she was referred to an ocncologist (cancer specialist). Apparently she was told by the specialist “if you stop smoking we will operate on you, if you don’t then just come back when you are worse and we’ll lop the tounge off”. I thought that was funny! but apparently true because no one can force the surgeons to operate with the risks involved if you are a smoker. I don’t mean to scare you- but could be a good thought for quitting. Cheers from Oz…Christine
BTW, the water in Bogo is often just fine. Seems to be warmer if I get in the shower before noon but the problem is, I go walking in late afternoon more than any other time, to cut back on sun exposure.
Last few days the water is fine without being heated. It often is, its just sometimes it gets cold. :) More so in the last few months as we’ve had unusually cool weather.
Christine! I smoke usually one cigar a week, sometimes two. I limit it to two days then I don’t smoke any more. If a doctor told me I had mouth cancer, I would certainly quit smoke. If a doctor told me what that doctor did, I would fire him immediately. He’s a jerk. I’ve put up with doctors like that and I never ever will again. Makes me sad for her. She’s got enough problems without being treated like that. Tell her that her chances of living are nearly zero if you don’t stop might have been a good way to go. Refusing her is even okay, they do have a right not to treat. Many times doctors act that way because they refuse to admit they are human and they blame the patient for being human and being sick because of it.
The meds I MUST pour down my throat every day are more of a threat to my kidneys, heart and liver than one cigar will ever be. I may cut them out though. What you said didn’t scare me at all. I know about mouth and throat cancer. Really bad stuff. Can be very disfiguring. Sounds like she got to it early. Even if she does quit smoking and I hope she does, chances are still good she’ll loose her tongue and part of her face. Lot of kids got themselves into massive problem using snuff in the US. Now that’s really nasty.
I use to smoke 4 to 5 packs of cigarettes. Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did. I’m sure I’d be quite dead by now if I hadn’t. Had my first cigar last month, it had been 23 or 24 years since I smoked anything. I’m being careful. Limiting it to two days a week wont get me addicted and I don’t think it will really cause me major health issues? Perhaps I’m mistaken.
