Direction of This Blog
When the elections where going this blog was booming. I love politics. I love to watch it and watch the power struggles and see how the chess game unfolds. It goes much further than government, it’s about civilization. I have a long history of being concerned about a majority imposing its will on the minority. An often unjust and short sighted will.
When we set a precedent by majority alone, we don’t see how another majority could take away what the majority wanted in the first place. This idea of majority rules is a fallacy. That’s not what our country is about. It is about protecting the rights of everyone as all men are created equal. You shouldn’t be imposing your values on me.
What I or you do should not be sanctioned by the government. The movies I watch or the books I read. Many people call me a democrat. I’m not. I’m just pretty much anti-republican. That started when I watched Ed Meese send a letter on official government stationary to Southland corporation threatening action by the government if they didn’t stop selling Playboy in their 7-11 stores.
I am still angry over that and I just don’t get why the American people seemed to care so little about it, especially at the time. This so anti-American, it strikes at the core of our outspoken non-conformist nature. This was a defining moment for me. It caused me to regret my vote for Regan.. I was no longer a Reganite.
There are many more situations since then that have brought the same kind of concerns for me. Almost always brought on by republicans. I’ll say it again, if we legislate Christianity, we set the precedent so that if Islam or Voodoo becomes the majority, there will be legislation to impose that on you. Is that what you really want?
Self Absorbed
I was amused the other day, someone came to my website, bearing my name, a website about me and told me I was self-absorbed Well duh, it’s a blog about me. What am I suppose to write about, you? Of course I’m self-absorbed on RustyFerguson.Com. I guess he thought he was going to hurt me. Sorry Gordy, not even close man. You’re welcome to bash me on my website, I found it to be funny. I meant what I said too, “i love you and there’s not a darn thing you can do about it.”
Visits to this website has gone way down since the peek interest in the recession and the elections has passed but I continue to write about them. Since traffic is important to me. Since I’m not trying to make money selling advertising, I need my traffic to come back..
The problem is economics and politics are very interesting to me. Its what I most often have to write about. What I’m going to do is build a political and financial website. It is just to hard to separate the two.
Philippine Living
If I do that, what am I going to write about here? Well, I probably wont be writing on this site as often as I do now. Some people have told me they want to read about my life here in the Philippines. I have two other sites dedicated to those issues. They are:
That does not mean I will stop writing about my life here in the Philippines. I will, especially when it is an issue related to growth.
Google and Duplicate Content Penalty?
Now to figure out what domain I’m going to buy for politics. Maybe i-am-a-gun-toting-liberal-Christian.com LOL I was always kind of surprised that this site was getting so much traffic. I never thought it would and now it is not. There is a good possibility though that there are other reason that my visitor level may have changed It has to do with Google though and I’m not going to get into that in this article. Now that I think about it, I think that is what is causing the reduction in visitors to this site.
In any case, I’m going to make a new blog site for my political and economic musings. What I’m going to write about here, I don’t know. This site may become like a traffic cop, pointing people to my other websites and post a lot of things more about me. A journal of my life. Only problem with that is, if something happens to me and no one will pay the bill, the site will go away. For that reason I think it is best to put those kinds of sites on a free website. One that will last even once your gone.

To The Philippines Faster
Hi Rusty!
I admit that your political reasoning stimulates my gag reflex. I do respect your right as an American to have your moronic viewpoints. Ha Ha. I am afraid that the liberals will get some of what they want but it will be moderated by the democrats that are not so radical. I was shocked to hear BHO today praising the tripe that Al Gore has been preaching. The science behind most of his agenda is so flawed that many of his followers have abandoned ship. It is so funny that people like Pelosi wants to save the world and then flys to work in her private jet. Al Gore’s utility bills in his mansion was 40K last year but he wants us to reduce our carbon footprint? We have been suffering from the biofuel fiasco because it was a politically motivated solution to our fuel crisis. Dems gave that one to their Iowa buddies and now the whole country is the victim of unsound science. Gas has to be over 3 dollars per gallon to break even and 100 btus of ethanol cost 128 btus of energy to produce. Food prices are high worldwide because of shortages of corn and fertilizer. Each corn plant uses a quart of water per day. There are crops that require no fertilizer or irrigation that will produce ethanol but the farmers don’t grow them in the cornbelt. So thank your democrat buddies for shutting down feedlots and chicken processing factories by not having the foresight to see the results of jumping on the first bandwagon. There are many lessons to be learned from this story. 1 Be careful what you wish for. 2. Politics always end up with self interested bufoons as leaders. 3 The majority becomes the victim of the complaining minority.
I thought that I would give you a comment because there are probably not very many liberal crybabys taking the time to read your blog. More than likely they are lighting candles at their BHO shrine and getting ready for the next great oratory delight of the Messiah.
Ha Ha Ha! Hope you enjoyed this my liberal friend!
So a Nobel laureate is an idiot. There really is no global warming at all. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Yea, Bush’s first term Attorney General, I can never remember his name, was right after all. If we didn’t agree with what he wanted, then we were un-american. I wonder how Jefferson, Madison, Washington would have had to say about that idea. The founding fathers, what conservatives claim to be all about.
I’m going to stick with the concept that Obama will be different. This idea of accepting they are all corrupt is how we got into this mess in the first place. Nope, I’m going to dream a little, I’m going to dream about the USA acting like the USA, being what it was intended to be or at least moving closer to it.
We live in a country that was founded around the idea of personal freedoms. Many expats claim they leave the USA because its over regulated but most of them are conservative and it is the conservatives that want to tell others how to live. You might want to rethink, especially if you stay there in the US. Your majority, white me and women are soon expected to be a minority.
BTW, that $40K was a number someone made up and has no basis in truth. And it really doesn’t matter if it is twice that much. The point is we should takes steps to reduce our foot print. If we are rich enough to afford a heated swimming pool or a mansion, surely no republican would say we shouldn’t reap the rewards of our hard work. I know I wouldn’t. however his home does include many green features.
Its a typical smoke screen to attack the person when attacking the message is more difficult to do. The number is not a fact, it is a lie.
I sure wish I had a private jet, a big one too. And I’d buy a hummer in a heartbeat. I’m appalled at people that through pain on people wearing fur or vandalizing someones hummer. I think we can go green and have more fun in the process, I don’t think we have to do without… I’m not sure what you’re ranting about regarding the biofuel, everyone knows that it cost more to produce it in carbon footprint than it saves. That’s no reason to not try to get to another place. You’ll probably be surprised to learn I’m in favor of missle defence system and against additional gun control measures. You see, I’m for personal freedom and when one party gets it wrong I’m not for that party.
I would like to be for the libertarian party or “green” party but some of what they propose is just silly. the want to get rid of the Federal Reserve Bank and the IRS? Oh get real, there is nothing wrong with the IRS that is not going on in every other government agency. The IRS is probably a bit more responsive as it has been under the microscope so much. no one likes taxes but the IRS doesn’t make those crazy laws, which really, if you understand why laws are there, they turn out to not be so crazy…. Many people think that tax system is unfair. Well, its’ not the purpose of the IRS to be fair, its their purpose to follow law as set down by CONGRESS whom the MAJORITY put into office.
Yes you are right! A nobel laureate is an idiot and a hypocrite! Global warming is not happening to the extent that chicken little is predicting. The earth was in an ice age before so part of the warming is the natural progression and part is man made.
I was commenting on the fact that some of the green technology is flawed and our congress has damaged our economy by promoting it before it has become cost effective. When oil prices went up it became worse because it had justification. Now that oil will go down to 40 dollars a barrel are we still going to produce ethanol at 120 dollars a barrel?
One of the products I sell is fire extinguishers. Since 2000 my costs have risen about 6% per year due to steel costs. In the last six months my cost per unit went up 120% because the chemical is similar to fertilizer. You can add to that the fact that many factories and businesses are closing here so my customer base is shrinking. There will be many more closures after Christmas.
I am trying to complete negotiations to sell my business and get the heck out of Dodge.
Take care my liberal friend.
Here is a quote for you:
“I am a skeptic… Global warming has become a new religion.” – Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.
Giaever is a Physicist. Al Gore is a Politician. Which Nobel Laureate do you think has more knowledge on the topic?
I don’t think Gore got the award for being a scientist but for bringing attention to the situation. I know there are a few scientist out there that disagree with the concept. Even more agree the concept but say its not man made. I don’t really care if it is man made or not. I too was a skeptic, but that has been whittled away by the fact, the clear fact, that the earth is getting warmer..
We got where we are by evolving and unless we continue to evolve we will be replaced by the fittest. Yes you can find about 650 scientist that say its not happening or its no man made. You can find 10′s of thousands that say it is.
Suppose there is no global warming, do you like being dependant on a group of people, many of which kill every Jew and Christian in the world if they could? Or even every modernized society?
The scientist you speak of is also about 80 years old. Yea, I’ll believe Gore over Giaever as his stamp of approval was in the last year or two. Do I think Giaever has a point about it becoming like a religion, yes I do. to say its not happening at all, is not really going with the most likely to be right theory.
Flawed science, show me some perfect science and I’ve got a bridge to sell to you. Give you a nice quit claim deed.
PS I have the political site up but its still being developed. So it will become less of a point of interest on this site but not completely. I’ll at least link back to post on that site.
LOL It is snowing on the US Southern Coast. It is snowing in New Orleans. Naw there’s no freaking climate change..
Hey Rusty… I noticed that you were calling it “Global Warming” but when the Houston snow popped up, then it became “Climate Change.” Well, I don’t think that it is man-made. I don’t believe in Global Warming, but I do believe in Climate Change. I believe that the world has been operating on a cyclical basis for centuries, probably since the beginning. There are ice ages and there are periods of extreme heat. It is looking like we are entering a cooler stage now (last couple of years).
Is it man made? Did man contribute? I doubt it. Does Gore know anything about it? I doubt that too.
I do want to thank Al Gore for inventing the internet. Without his contribuition we would not be having this conversation. This is sarcasm in case you are so in love with Chicken Little that you couldn’t detect it. When you and Bob can look out the window and see snow then there is a problem. I’m sure that BHO will find a place for Al Gore in his administration. I hope that he can also find a place for Michael Moore and Mel Gibson. Wow that would be quite a dream team! Oops! there is that darn sarcasm again!
Well, there they go again. Al Gore never said that. He probably did have somemthing to do with the legislation that dealt with it.
The US Federal Government did develop the TCP/IP network that the internet is based on. I remember when I first became a part of the “internet” and I went wow, we’ve been using this at work for years. We just called it IP though.
But it is okay, I too have made jokes about Al Gore inventing the internet even though I knew it was a massive distortion of what he said.
I don’t like Gore because regardless of what he says, he was part of the PMRC in the early days. Before he got famous, before his wife got famous, they appeared on thee Today Show, or Good Morning America and introduced the PMRC together. It was hers primarily but he was very much a part of it.
There was one thing though, the PMRC caused some wonderful hearings that gave Frank Zappa some really good sound bits for one of his albums.
I really don’t know why you’d try to discredit Obama by using Gore. Gore has his problems. I”m no gore Fan, the man coudln’t even carry his own freaking state. Would I choose him over any Republican, nope. I would choose McCain over Gore.
You’re trying to stereotype me into some nice little conspiracy theorist liberal but you’re not going to be able to do it. I don’t fit there but this stuff you’re spewing…. Well spew it if you want too but the name calling and the distorted and misquotes are not going to get you very far with me.
And I wouldn’t believe everything I heard at deer camp. LOL Do you particpate in that? Man that was the biggest bunch of tall talkers. It was fun though. I only got to do it for one year. It just flat rocked!
So far, I’m the only liberal expat I know. There’s gotta be another one some place. I’m a libertarian but not to the point I want no government. I’m a realized, I think we need government to do things that the citezin is not in a position to do.
I heard someone say today that if these “green” business were viable someone would alredy be doing them. I can’t understand how he got the job he had. He was a congressman. At one time, computers were too expensive for your average joe or even the biggest company could handle. Uncle Sam came in and funded the early computer languages and standerized them. BASIC, COBOL, RPG and FORTRAN came out of that.
Space is another, now companies are positioning themselves to make money off of that.
Why we are talking about Gore, i don’t understand. Of course Obama should consult with him on going green. But there’s no need to worship green.
Bob, you really need to study the situation more before you decide you don’t believe in it. During the warming of poles there will be different results in different areas. The Philippines will become cooler becaue of changes in currents. They say it will be under water. I’ll be dead. :) Global warmingn doesn’t mean all places will get hotter.
Well, I tried to find something about more snows on the web due to global warming causing more snow. The only thing I could find was talking about the great lakes regarding snow. Not quite the same thing as snowing in NO. What I saw, I think was on National Geographic. It has to do with Glaciers in Antarctica has changed or increased the rate that it melts. This glacier has major effect on the “trade winds” (I haven’t heard that term since the fourth grade) which bring warmer weather to the US which would cause cooler oceans in some areas and thus allowing cold fronts to get further south. Now that’s a gross simplification. I was a bit terse in my previous reply. Sorry, I keep telling myself never reply as soon as i read something. :)
Don’t get too excited about snow in New Orleans. I used to live near New Orleans – I lived in Franklinton, Louisiana and Baton Rouge, Louisiana for about 10 years – and we had white Christmases 3 or 4 times when I lived there. This was in the 70′s and early 80′s. Snow, while not an every winter thing, was not all that unusual.
keep up the good fight Rusty. I hope that Gore is wrong–if he is right I sure hope Bob is good at treading water when the water level covers the Philippines. Lol. Weather is set over hundreds and thousands of and not the short memory of a human. Keep padling bob!lol
Hey donm – I sit on fairly high ground, so I think I’ll be safe! Heck, I’ll probably be dead by the time all the icebergs melt anyway. :-)
There is no longer any reasonable doubt that it is happening. i tried not to believe in it myself. I’ve heard this noise before. Now it is real. The warnings we heard as teens were premature but they are now here. From National Geographic
Is It Happening?
Yes. Earth is already showing many signs of worldwide climate change.
• Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
• The rate of warming is increasing. The 20th century’s last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies. And the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850.
• The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average, according to the multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment report compiled between 2000 and 2004.
• Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.
• Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting—for example, Montana’s Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.
From Wikipedia:
Two millennia of mean surface temperatures according to different reconstructions, each smoothed on a decadal scale. The unsmoothed, annual value for 2004 is also plotted for reference.
Global temperatures have increased by 0.75 °C (1.35 °F) relative to the period 1860–1900, according to the instrumental temperature record. This measured temperature increase is not significantly affected by the urban heat island effect.[56] Since 1979, land temperatures have increased about twice as fast as ocean temperatures (0.25 °C per decade against 0.13 °C per decade).[57] Temperatures in the lower troposphere have increased between 0.12 and 0.22 °C (0.22 and 0.4 °F) per decade since 1979, according to satellite temperature measurements. Temperature is believed to have been relatively stable over the one or two thousand years before 1850, with possibly regional fluctuations such as the Medieval Warm Period or the Little Ice Age.[
Wiki also goes into climate change before humans. Even if it is not man made, people are working on ways to prevent it from happening. Right now they are all too expensive but we need to work on it. Just as we need to work on ways to deflect asteriods, the big one is coming. It’s not a mater of if but when.
Heck there are people that think we didn’t go to the moon still. You can find it all over the net. There are people that thinks the Bush administration attacked the world trade center. They even make a good argument but then I’ve seen good arguments for Satanism, that doesn’t make it a good idea though.
I’m no expert but either are you. The worst place to get your information is on some right leaning forum or fox news. That’s where I found your quote from, on a conspiracy theory forum where people need to take their anti-paranoid pills And if they are taking them, they need to take more. LOL
Speaking of medications this new medication I’m takig is making me ansi. It killed the pain which is great but now I’m nearly in orbit. LOL While I’m up there, I’ll install some of those shields they are thinking about deploying to reflect part of the sun away from the earth. That’s one of the more effective ideas out there. On the downside it is astronomical in cost. It would be cheaper just to move to another glaxey. LOL
Donm. LOL Bob, some models have the Philippines disappearing if we do nothing but not in our life time.
One of the keys to this is that the ice contains tons of trapped carbon, when it melts, if it mellts to much, it will release far more carbon than man could ever produce.
Gore is a spokeman, nothing more but I strongly disagree that he knows nothing. Come on, he’s been doing nothing but this for years now. Gore is not stupid. he had issues in Tn because he spent many years away, in Ivy league schools. He’s taught as a full professor at universities, I think full professor. But it wasn’t environmental sciene, it was political science.
Donm, i guess we could evolve in reverse, we could become fish? Or is someone going to tell me that’s not true too, that there is no evolution. Tom’s governor raised his hand when asked. How about you guys? :) Evolution does not conflict with the bible, only some peoples interpretation of it.
Hi Rusty,
I did not get the quote from any right wing forum. I got it directly from the archives of the United States Senate. I’d say that they are pretty balanced.
If it is agreed that climate change was going on before man even existed, how do we know it is not a good thing? Maybe the planet needs climate changes in order to correct things? Who knows. It’s nature… we should not mess with it, IMHO.
Wow you will trust Wikipedia as a reliable source but not Fox news? Are you aware that anyone can contribute to Wikipedia so it is invalid as a reliable refernce material? I was a history/ political science major in college but that doesn’t qualify me to tell the world how to live their lives. There were ski resorts in Colorado that said they would soon be closed due to global warming and lack of snow. They were closed last month because of record snow falls. Did it ever occur to you enviornmental Einsteins that over 90% of the ice is already submerged under water so it will not raise the sea level if it melts. Last report I heard was that some of the ice packs are expected to increase in size this year. I don’t want to alarm you but the sun is increasing in size and is scheduled to consume the entire solar syastem in about a million years. Since that is a sure thing we should probably get Al to start working on that. Maybe we can send him to the sun to have a look around so he will be qualified in his response. At one point you stated that the Philippines would become cooler as a result of climate change. Be careful when saying this because it could start a new catch phrase. Wow its hot today maybe we should throw a few more old tires on the fire!
Well Rusty I truly enjoy picking on your ideaology. I hope that you don’t get your panties in a bunch because of this. You have spouted off a lot of meaningless data that basically supports the assumption that the earth is coming out of an ice age.
Believe it or not I have moderated my response so as to not offend you. I enjoy the heated debates much as a pig enjoys rolling in the mud! Have a nice day in Paradise!
The senate is balanced? You gotta be kidding me? You think Fox News is Fair and Balanced too?
So what? You got it from Congers. What difference does that make. And I highly doubt that the journals of the congressional quarterly is where you got it from, at least I hope you’re not reading that. I tried once. Man that is one boring document.
no need to do anything about it if extinction is a good idea to you. I mean, cancer is nature. But if I get it, I’m certainly going to get it. Strep Throat is nature, but it sure isn’t any fun. Dengue fever is nature, but I really don’t want that either.
However, some of the things people are talking about to change global warming are clearly risky. Sending a billion mirrors into space, we don’t know all the effects that will have. The scientist working on it are certainly aware that their are risk.
A life ending, ice age creating asteroid crashing into us is also natural, but you think we should let it happen if we could stop it?
We have a mind, That is why we have evolved to the top of the food chain. No, its not going to happen in our life time, at least no the Philippines under. The sky is falling but it is falling slowly.
Are the scientist right about everything? Nope… these are theories they will evolve over time.
There use to be only a few people and lots of lions. Now there are lots of us and much fewer of them..If we loose the Philippines, we loose Filipina man….
Tom, yes, of course I would trust Wiki over Fox.
Ha Ha! You are really unmovable in your views. Hmm who else has this predisposition. Could it be George W Bush? LOL! Have a good night! Maybe take an extra Xanax!
the senate history is filled with lies and half truths. I worked for a us senator from California for three years and read the congressional record as it was dropped on our door every day. It is the clasic of the Garbage in garbage out saying. Almost anything both fact or fiction is put in it and extened very day that congress is in D.C.
dont get me started on Fox new or aa I call it Fox lies. They wouldnt know the truth if it bit them and bit them. Fox is right up there with the national enquire. Boy this is fun rusty keep up the good work. I dont agree with everything you say but you are pointed in the right direction for one who came from the deep south of the us.
Wow, thanks Tom, you just compared me to a US President. I didn’t realize you thought so highly of me. There is one major difference between W and myself, I’m right.
I’ve seen no reason to move from my positions. I change my mind lots of times. i always thought I’d vote for McCain. He deserves to be president. Only one problem, Obama will be better at it. I went with my head instead of my heart.
Another place I moved my position was on global warming. Like many people in our age group, we’ve heard this sky is falling too many times. Made it really hard to believe. Too much is blamed on global warming. Dengue fever is because of global warming. I thought that was hilarious. A way for politicians to pass the buck. Only problem is the World Health Organization agrees. You know, its always been fairly warm here in the PH, really hard to believe that the increased death rate is because of global warming. Especially since the number of reported cases in Cebu is down. Just the death are up. Cases in Manila are up. I don’t know about Mindanoa.
I know I appear stubborn but it really isn’t true. I just need a reason to change a position.
I think Bush made some improvements in his last two years. He took his presidency away from Chaney. Bush wouldn’t change his mind on anything. He was never wrong. His problem was delegating too much. Opposite problem with Carter who wouldn’t delegate. Both are bad.
Don, you’re right. i forgot all about that. Senators often go in and change what they said on the record. The record is changed. That’s well know. If they aids catch a slip, they go in and fix it.
This scientist that Bob mentioned appears to have really said that. He is a skeptic and he did earn a noble prize.
Fox Noise distorts things badly. A few episodes of Keith Olberman would make that clear to anyone with an open mind. Olberman is not fair and balanced but he doesn’t try to claim he is. I watch Fox a lot here because its the only American news I can get. Accepting what they say as fact is ludicrous.
When the two republican senators were caught in their gay sex scandals, one in the bathroom and the other with under age boys, BOTH times they identified the men as democrats. Once could have been a mistake, twice, no way. Now that I’ve actually watched The Factor, the Colbert Report is twice as funny.
