Improved Health by Walking
Things are getting better. After several weeks of seeing little to no results at all, yet being hungry and walking, I dropped four pounds over night. I actually gained weight during that time so over all I lost 7 pounds. I doubt I’m building muscle mass but that would be nice.
When healthy people start to exercise, they often gain weight because they build muscle. That in the long run is good because they will build more mitochondria too. The mitochondria is what burns the
energy in our blood and when you burn enough, the body has to break down the fats and use them. So the more mitochondria you have the better off you are. Doctor told me once I probably could not longer count on exercise doing this for me. He was wrong about many things, perhaps he was wrong about that too. Would be nice.
I’ll probably wake up tomorrow with it all back on but I’m getting ready to walk again now. Will probably get two miles in again. I walked two miles yesterday. I walked one mile the day before. I had to stop half way through as it started raining. Maybe once I have my water proof camera, I’ll just walk in the rain, I find it romantic. Hope Jessie doesn’t find it a pain in her butt though. At least it will be cooler!
I really walked two 1 mile walks yesterday. I walked to the bay by the market. This is not the same bay that is close to my home. Well, its part of the same bay but a different location on the bay. Much further away.
Today I plan to walk a long route that will have me go by the bay close to our home but I will take the long route to get there. Two other girls have started going with us sometimes. Yesterday there were three other girls. I got a kick out of Lisa saying she’s practising walking. I guess there is not a good word for exercise or she just didn’t know what to call it in English. I thought it was cute as is she. :)
My blood sugars remain quite good. I’d like to take it more often but they are so expensive and I’m down to my last 20 or so. I wont be able to buy any next month so I need to hold back on taking it more often than I need too.
These cold showers after a walk are really not a lot of fun but death isn’t much fun either. It has been cloudy most of the day but the sun is out now. It seems to be the morning sun that warms our water, for whatever reason that is, I’m not sure. So I’m sure I’m going to have a very unpleasant shower when I get back!
Its time go to, so I’m off to see the little old lady that will once again ask me for money and I will tell her we don’t take money when we walk. I don’t mind the first couple of times they ask. She’s great photographically though. I guess so many Filipino thing Americans are rolling around in money. I sure wish it were true.

Hi Rusty – The bisayan word for exercise is “ehersisyo”.
Oh geesh, monster word for me. LOL Thanks!
I’m to he point whereee I’m starting to be able to hear the shorter words, one or two syllables. I can often even spell the words or read them correctly now but some words might as well be Martian. Jessie can pronounce and said it is also a Tagalog word but at the least, not common in Waray-Waray. She is unable to translate Waray-Waray as she’s more modern with a mixture of Tagalish and English in her Waray. :) She just tried to get me to roll the R. I can’t do it. :) Oh well, makng progress but slow. :)
thanks for the assist!
My daughter asked me the other day what is the visayan word for ‘supervise’ or s’supervision’. I said ‘superbisyon’, I admit I’m sort of guessing, relying on distant memories, but I’m sure I’m correct. She thought it was very funny, so was ‘ehersisyo’!
What, a yank who can’t roll the ‘R’s'? Now that would be very unusual. I’ve heard people say that the reason they can tell a Filipino accent from other Asian accents is that Filipinos tend to exaggerate the ‘R’ pronunciations, remnants of American colonialism.
Hi Christine – there is not a commonly used word for supervise. You are pretty much right with “superbisyon” or you could also use “nagsupervise”. Feyma also suggested “pagtanaw” which would make sense too.
Thanks for the info. Bob. Assume you know Visayan? So if I say “go and supervise the carpenter”, then I’ll have to say “tan-awa ang panday”? That somehow doesn’t sound right, it literally translate “watch the carpenter”. Not that there’s something wrong with it- just sounded funny.
Hi Christine – I have been studying Bisaya for almost 2 years now, my skills are “medyo lang” I guess. I guess if I was going to tell somebody to supervise the carpenter I’d say – “pagsupervise sa panday, palihug” or something along those lines. There are so many different ways of saying it though!
That sounds heaps better Bob. I might have to say “supervise sa panday” a lot if my dream of building a house in Bogo eventuates. Apparently you can get slow “pandays” and reasobly fast “pandays”. BTW, did you have to verify that with Feyma see if it is correct? coz if you didn’t, then I’d say you’re reasonably good.
Hi Christine – Nah, I didn’t ask Feyma about that… that’s just very simple Bisaya… I can handle a lot harder stuff than that on my own!
You must be good at it then. Me and my daughter are trying to learn together.
BTW, I think our friend Rus, is ok despite his witdrawals. He’s sent me 4 e-mails over our “monkey business”! and I mean monkey business as in ape business. I’ll let him explain that one. Hope he’ll be 100% soon…
Christine, Bob has a tutor that he meets with on a regular basis. I will be joining him in that very soon!
Yesterday I met a guy that teaches English in Singapore and has also been a college and high school teacher in Bogo over the years as well as a Baptist preacher that happens to preach at the church next to my home, well he did that in the past.
Next month, once or twice a week he’s going to come by to teach me Cebuano for the cost of basically friendship. We’ll be taking him out to eat!
I loose count but Bob has also been livingn here for about 7 or 8 years I think, He can set that straight if he needs too.
I’m tickeled to death now when I hear Jessie and her friends talk and I pick up on a few simple words, even o o is a big deal to me. Or sige or ate or dia and my spelling might be wrong on some of those.
Simple words but they mean I’m learning to hear the language. A year ago it sounded like giberish to me. Filipino talk fast anyway and these new sounds are very hard for me to even hear but this means I’m making some progress, I think.
I’m doing okay with the Effexor phase down but its still not great. Tuesday was likely a combination of Effexor and the extreme fatigue I got myself into from the fun in the sun on Bantayan Island. I do have lupus and from time to time it is going to show its ugly head. It doesn’t ake much for me to feel like i”ve been poisoned. When I was working, I had to avoid that at all cost. Now that I don’t work and I can sleep 24 hours, I can enjoy life. I slept for nearly 24 hours on Tuesday. Yesterday I slept most of theh day.
Right now, I feel pretty good and even got to take an Effexor! I’m about to email bob on the subject now.
Hey Rus, I sent you an email re-our “monkey business”. I need a reply by Friday (tomorrow) at the latest.
Hopefully I got the reply you needed. :) Jessie should have sent you address and phone numbers.
I’m having trouble concentrating due to the effexor withdrawel but I took a full dose today. It may be better to take a full dose and skip a day. If I don’t get this resolved, I will see a doctor to assist me with getting off it next month.
I’m already looking for a welder to build that gage. We have a dirty kitchen we can also keep the monkey in if we have too while waiting on cage to be built. I do not want to leave it out in t he open where it can be harmed.
Hi Rusty – Actually, I’ve been here for 9 years already!
Even a year longer than I realized.
Lot of expats think they are extremely knowledgeable because they have been here a long time but I’ve been able to pick up more in a year than they have in three. You don’t fit into that category. Why? Because you deal with Filipino. Most expats isolate themselves from Filipino except for Filipina and that’s for short term situations in many cases.
Come on expats, get out there, listen to Filipino about their view on their country. you might stop complaining so much. hehe. :)
