Man and Immortality

Man is evolving before my eyes.  I started to say our eyes but since so many people think man didn’t evolve, I didn’t use that word.  This article is NOT about man evolving from ape has man evolved?  Without a doubt. Is the earth 2000 years old.  Give me a break, two thousand years is even a hiccup in the time line of earth.  This article is not about those arguments.  There are religious implications but on a level deeper than that.

Cloning Your Self

I haven’t heard of any place where one can save their DNA to later have it restored once science is able to do it.  If people will freeze their head or body, it would be much easier to just save your DNA and then clone yourself at the appropriate time.

Downloading Your Memory

I wonder how much longer it will be before we can tap into our brains and save our memory to a hard drive!  I don’t know why this idea popped into my head the other day.  I was watching a show about stem cells or cloning a few days ago and this idea hit me.

I’m sure there is a lot of money out there just waiting to be paid to someone that can put this business together.  I wont be surprised when it happens.  I doubt the technology exist yet but that wont stop people from coming up with some kind of scam.  Someday, I think it will be much more than a scam.

Immortality?

When man does achieve this, will this give us immortality?  Seems it might.  We will certainly fix any genetic issues that cause illness as we find them.  It would be a cost saving measure and could be offered as an additional service by the human cloning complexes.  If they remove the known genetic defects, you’ll live longer and wont need to be cloned as often.

Then we could recover our memory from the backup we made before we died! It would be like we never left.  Our memory from life time to life time could be saved and uploaded to our newly reconstructed self.  Who knows, maybe we could also pick and choose which memories we had restored.  If there was mental trauma, perhaps we could elect to not restore those.

Is that immortality?  Most people believe their is a life force or a soul.  Would the soul be restored?  Would we be more like a zombie.  Not dead, yet not fully alive?  Who knows the answer to that question!

What would happen to faith?  Would we come to believe ourselves to be without an all powerful creator?  I could see how that would happen.  Would people still have children?  If we never died, would we over populate the planet?  I think so.

What would you do.  If you had the choice of dying forever, at least on this world or the opportunity to possibly live forever, what would you choose?  I would find it hard not to return as a clone of myself.  What would be the side effects of such a decision?

I know we are no where near that now but it wasn’t so long ago at all that we didn’t have computers in our home.  When Tandy was selling 10,000 systems a year, many of us thought that was a huge number.  Not so huge any more.  That would be a small number.

It seems the more we learn, the faster we learn more.  Is this technology in reach in the next 50 years.  Some may laugh but I think it is.  If I can come up with the idea, I bet you someone else is already working on it.

We could create memories too.  Instead of a vacation we could just have someone one computer generate it and upload it to our memory!  It would be as if we did it.  Governments could use it to control people if they choose too.  Now I sound like one of those poor unfortunate people that think the government has implanted a chip in them and are tracking them or putting thoughts in their head.  I think all this will be possible someday.

Man may be the first being that can control our evolution and even cause it to happen!  What does that mean?  I don’t know.  I hope a few of you will take time to speculate and share your thoughts.
