Just a Cold

Yea I did have a bit of  cold.  Pretty yucky yesterday.  No big deal, just a cold but with me I’m so use to the smallest thing ending in severe bronchitis or pneumonia that I tend to expect the worst.  Thing is though, once I was so aggressively treated for lupus and it seemed to mostly go away, i don’t get seriously sick every time I get a cold.

Google Privacy and Other Ways to Get Banned

There are so many ways to get banned from Google Adsense program that it makes some new webmasters not even try.  Here I am trying to build around six websites based with the hopes of earning income from Google’s Adsense.  One of the reasons you can get banned is for setting up a site just for Google Adsense ads.  I think Google has to know that a LOT of sites would never go up without that being the incentive.

They may be very good sites with tons of original content but they wouldn’t be there without Google Adsense.  Today, in Google Groups there is a new rash of banning that people think were because of failure to have a privacy statement on their website.

It seems that California has a new law or an enforcement event that is causing Google to get serious about this issue regarding site showing their ads.

But Google usually doesn’t tell people why they are being banned.  They send an email saying they have determined that the site is a risk to their advertisers and that’s it.   You get one chance at an appeal but your chances are bleak when you don’t even know the cause.   For that reason, if you ever do find yourself banned, do not respond to Google immediately.  Seek the advice of webmaster that are more seasoned than myself and I’m pretty seasoned.  Ask them to review your site to see if they can find the issue or issues.

Then correct them and write your appeal.  You need to show the reason was not due to your negligence or the chance of you getting the ban lifted is not very good.

From what I can tell, the potential income from Google Adsense can be substantial, so it is worth the trouble. But I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to stay up on what one can and cannot do with Google.  Google has too much to handle and has seen so much fraud so they just take the “nuclear sledge hammer approach” to everything.  I borrowed that quote from someone on a forum. :)

Google states that you must have an adequate privacy policy on your website.  But they wont tell you what is adequate.  They do tell you some things that must include.  They seemed to be restricted on just what they can say for legal reasons.

Only one thing can change this though, that’s competition and my guess is that it will be coming.  They also reject new sites and don’t say why.  I applied for a Google affiliate account and was rejected with no explanation as to why.  When I followed up, I did see several reasons why I wouldn’t be accepted.  For one, my domains have privacy enabled which shields my personal data from the web. That’s enough reason to be turned down by Google’s Affiliate Program.

And I’m going through all this pain for $10.00 a month.  I hope it will not stay at that level and I don’t expect it too.  In four months time it has gone from nothing to .05 a month to $10.00 a month.  I expect some stagnation in this now as I write more content.  I wont keep seeing this kind of growth.
