Big Jim’s Philippine Experience — An excellent site and will answer many of your questions about your legal stay here in the Philippines including the tourist visa.
I AM GETTING MY PASSPORT AND WILL BE GOING TO HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO GET SHOTS TO COME TO CEBU !!!!! I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I CAN GET VISA ONCE I AM THERE !!! I AM WANTING TO LIVE THER AND I DO HAVE A GIRLFRIEND THAT LIVES IN ESPERANZA AND WHEN I GET THERE WILL HAVE A PLACE FOR US IN CEBU !!!! IS IT SAFE FOR AMERICANS IN CEBU ????
You can live here on that but you’re likely to take some deep cuts in your personal living standards. How important it aircon to you? Opps that’s AC to you. :)
You’re probably going to have trouble finding a place with aircon that will cost you under a third of your income, it can be done though. I saw a place I would stay and it was only P7000. Small but it would work.
If health is ongoing problem you’re going to probably want to live in Luzaon and not too far away from Manila and there go the prices rising.
You can eat for less than $10 a day. Then utilities and otherwise. You can certainly live cheaper here than in the USA but I wouldn’t want to do it for less than $1000 a month.
I’m a disabled vetran 31 years old receiving $625.00 a month equivilent to slightly under p30,000 per month I know I wouldn’tbe rich but could i live in the philippines off of that much money monthly especially with yearly cost of living raises

Hi Terry. All you need to enter the country is your passport.
Here is some additional information on that: http://heyjoe.ph/philippine-immigration/

Some how I missed your comment Matthew. I found it a year later.
You can get by on that.
You might want to considering living near the VA hospital so you don’t have to incur cost going there. Fairly near. Not next door.
It really depends on you. I couldn’t do it but that depends on your conditions in the USA too.
