McCain VS Obama
Two Good Men
For the first time in American elections for as long as I can remember, I’m not hearing talk of voting for the lessor evil. Oh I’m sure it is going on, many will not vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. This attitude of voting for the lessor evil is greatly reduced this time around. Why? The USA has two good choices in two good men.
For me, it is the first time that both men are a good choice. Most of the people I know and have discussed their political affiliation will say the are independent. Most of the people I know that say that can’t remember the last time they voted for a democrat. I’m independent and have voted for the independent party in the past. I lean toward democrat.
I am a civil libertarian. In a perfect world there would be no government as there would be no reason for it. We do not live in a perfect world and thus we have need for a government.
The republicans claim to be for less government. I’m confused by this as that has not been my experience. I don’t hear democrats telling me what movies I should watch which happened with the movie The Last Temptation. Or which magazine can be sold at 7-11 stores. It has been my observation that republicans are more likely to meddle in my life than are democrats and for that reason I lean toward democrat.
My main problem has been the republican attorneys general. It started with Ed Meese. Bush’s first term attorney general spoke on the congressional floor and said that if you don’t agree with my position then you are un-American. A paraphrase, but that is what it boiled down too.
Today I watched the Republican National Convention and was reminded of all the things that make John McCain a true American Hero. He is a good man. Sometimes his straight talk is not as straight as he likes to make it out to be, I have seen him waffle on issues and reposition himself on issues that would appeal more to the republican base. On the other hand, I’ve seen him hold positions that appeared to be political suicide. He is a good man. He is a man of integrity. He has placed country ahead of self in the most dramatic of ways.
When Obama announced he was running, I was disappointed. I thought he should wait. But as I listened to him talk, I liked what I heard. He is a very smart man. He is not as well tested as McCain as he hasn’t had the years behind him. Years bring test. Obama refused political action committee money or basically corporate money. He accepts money only from American individuals. I have a friend that wanted to donate a few dollars and couldn’t because he is from New Zealand. Refusing corporate money speaks toward his integrity, the way he has run his campaign shows me integrity.
Hillary Clinton wanted the nod for his running mate, she told him that but told him to not lead her on if he wasn’t truly interested. He told her that he had already decided that she would not be a good fit for him. That shows integrity. it would have been politically smart to bring her on to the ticket. I’m not sure how smart it would be long term though. Joe Biden, his actual pick is a very strong choice. I have long been impressed by Biden, but his mouth, like my own, gets him into trouble.
If there were any skeleton’s in Obama’s closet they would have been outed by now. Though I’m pretty sure a day or two before the election, something will come out. If nothing does, then he must be squeaky clean. McCain had his younger and wilder days too. But so far, Obama is an example of your average well off American family.
Nothing indicates to me that Obama is anything but a good man as well. He is far from perfect too. Our civil rights have been attacked during the Bush years. Obama is the best candidate to turn that around. Republicans tend to want to control my life. I don’t know anyone that does a great job of controlling their own.
Because of that and because of Barack Obama’s refusal to accept PAC money is why I will most likely vote for him. I’m not 100% decided yet but I’m close to 100%. I almost changed my mind today.
This time though, I will be happy no matter who wins. Both are good men.

And stop using that lame leftist straw man to try to justify it. No one has told the Muslims that they can’t build a mosque. Those of us who oppose are saying “don’t do it THERE.” There are zoning ordinances across the nation that dictate where various businesses and other organizations can build. This is no different. There has already been discussion in NY about allowing this bunch to put the mosque somewhere else. But now that Obama has (again) stuck his nose in where it doesn’t belong, things are escalating out of control.
There are no existing zoning laws stating that mosques or any other religious buildings can not be built there. It is not even on ground zero it down the street, that fact does not seem to put out there that often. It was pretty clear than many people were wondering where the president stood and it was a large talking point. He was not sticking his nose is as he was asked the question sever times by multiple sources and the nation wanted to know. It was clear IMO that he said there are certain liberties and freedoms allowed to all people and the building of this mosque is there American right. Although he understands the opposition and thinks (his personal opinion) that the Muslim community should reconsider their position on this. I think it would be a bigger moral thing if the Christian community were accepting of this and made a joint effort to help out.
Within two blocks is ground zero but you know what it doesn’t matter.
That it is down the street i brought up a lot.
It is irrelevant.
Presidents are often asked to wade into the middle of a local issue, most of the time they refuse. He could have done that in order to side step the issue. I’m glad he stood up for what is right. Funny, how we say we want that. But if the right words don’t come out, words that “we” agree with then we don’t want them to do the right thing.
It saddens me to see the hate so many American’s now have for Muslims. That’s what it is folks. Its hate and if you’re one of them you need take a close look at yourself. Is that really what “you” this is right?
