It is Official, Obama has Won
His acceptance speech sent chills all over my body. It was an awesome moment and a black man will be presidents in two months should every thing go safely. I’m sure the security around this man has been ramped up to extraordinary at this point.
The Klan and the Nazi have been blunted but they are still active. When I left Jackson Ms. nearly 30 years ago the KKK was often in the middle of the streets collecting money. I hated seeing that. I suspect that doesn’t still go on. I hope not. With that said, they have the right to protest, speak or do anything else that others have the right to do.
We have gone from the Klan in the streets to a black man being elected to the most powerful position in the world. There is a lot of hope riding on this man. When he announced he was running, I thought there was just no way he could win. Wow, did he prove me wrong.
McCain has conceded and President-elect Obama has made what may have been his most eloquent speech yet. His speech was not about himself, instead it was about the American People. He understands that we want our country back. He said the result was not about him and he understood that. He called upon the words of Martin Luther King Jr.
I can remember the FBI showing up at doors in Jackson, Ms. asking about bombings. I have seen a lot of racism form both blacks and whites. I have been the victim of racism more than once. I personally know some African Americans that will see this as a way to gain more power, they have the wrong person. President-elect Barack Obama is not going to be a party to that.
Listen to me, I actually trust and have hope about the political process in the USA. I have not had that in a long time. I even stopped voting for a while, mostly because I couldn’t handle the lines with the health issues I had going on. Being able to vote absentee helped me with that and talking to a conservative friend a few months ago kicked me in the but and got me into the process.
Obama said something after winning, he said “I need your help.” Politicians never say that. He mentioned gays in his acceptance speech. He is all inclusive and why wouldn’t he be. He is a half white, half black man. That’s what my hope is about. That we can heal some wounds. We have the chance. A chance I didn’t see coming. I hope that others will join in and this bottom up approach. We have a chance to make a change and a big change in direction.
It appears that we will have a democratic majority in both houses but not a large enough majority to prevent filibusters in the senate. That may be a good thing if the parties will work together. That seems like a long shot to me. That is why Obama said I need your help. Expect Obama to use the internet, you should get on his mailing list regardless of your party affiliation.
We can’t expect too much, but we shouldn’t expect too little either. I don’t think he’ll give up and we can’t give up either. We have to make our senators and representatives know that we have had enough of fighting for one party. We want, we must see things get better and for the first time in a long time, a lot of us believe it can happen.

As you know, from things I have written on my site, I found myself unable to make a decision in the Presidential race this year. I didn’t find that either candidate measured up to my expectations in one way or another.
There was a time 5 or 6 months ago that I decided to go for Obama, but some things in the interim put me back on the fence again.
All of that said, I am hopeful for President Obama. I also am happy to see a black man achieve the office of President of the United States. My reasons for not backing Obama had nothing to do with his race. In fact, his race was one thing that was in his “plus column” in my book. It is a historic day for the USA for this to happen, and I am all for that.
I am willing and happy to get behind him now. If he needs my help in some way, I am willing to give him that, and do whatever I can to see him succeed. Nothing would make me happier.
Honestly, I am ecstatic in the fact that my kids, which are mixed race, have a man of mixed ethnicity that they can look up to, and it proves to people like my kids that they also can grow up to be anything they strive for. Another similarity between President Obama and my kids is that he grew up part of his childhood in SE Asia, which is also true of my kids. Born in the USA, and now living in the Philippines.
In this way, yesterday was a great day in American History. It is my hope that his policies turn out to prove that it was a great day in other ways as well.
Bob, mostly I knew you were fed up with the whole thing.
I thought Rev. Write or Right or how ever his name is spelled was going to put an end to Obama but he handled it well. Not as well as he could have but well enough to survive it.
thing is I think McCain was right to declare it off topic because, I’ve been members of a church were the senior minister said political things that really disturbed me. Just because I remained in the church didn’t mean I agreed with him on those points, I didn’t. True not as shocking as some of what I heard out of Obama preacher.
For me that was the only stumbling block I saw in Obama. I’ce seen his position distorted, I’m surprised that tape that is out there where he’s talking to Ayers didn’t get released two days before the election though.
Clinton seemed to think something was out there, maybe she knows it is out there but decided not to use it. Good for her. Or maybe she figured everyone has something in their past and since nothing came out yet, must be on its way. LOL
Boy I’m tired…. Heat has gotten to me.
Always good to hear from you.
yea it could be a great day for American’s. Obama hit the nail on the head when he said he needs us. I’ll be there, I’ll be writing to my congressmen soon, all republicans and let them know that I expect the partisan crap to stop or they will see their ability to exercise partisan politics come to an end. Maybe just tell them they will stop or we will stop them.
