Powell Endorses Barack Obama
Colin Powell shocked the republicans this morning by going on the prestigious Meet The Press and announcing that he will vote for Barack Obama. He said it is because of his style and substance and the inclusive nature of his campaign that he believes Obama will be an “exceptional president,” a transitional figure that will bring about change and usher in the next generation of politics into our land.
What is most remarkable about this endorsements is as you probably know, Powell was a member of the President Bush’s Cabinet during Bush’s first term. He has been considered as a possible running mate for several republican presidents and was urged by many to run for the office.
Powell is a highly respected general and many thought he was in a power struggle with Dick Cheney during the march to our invasion into Iraq. Many feel that he was betrayed and lied to by the Bush administration. He was embarrassed by the administration when he was given false information to report to the United Nations in our argument for war. The report was later proved false and led the conviction of Scooter Libby for obstruction of Justice.
This will be a massive blow to the McCain campaign.

I’m 100% Southern and consider that to be a good thing. I’m sorry for the people that don’t understand.
I grew up in Jackson, Mississippi where I went to Jim Hill High School and Millsaps College. I worked several jobs while going to college but most often could be found behind the counter at good old “Speed-E Food.” One of the most fun jobs I ever had, because of the people that lived in South Jackson.
After college, I went to work for the IRS as a Revenue Agent. I loved it and I was good at it but my health fell apart. I had to take a position of as a Functional Automation Coordinator, which was fancy Government speak for Computer Analyst.
I finally came to my senses. Decided working wasn’t a good idea for me and applied for disability. It was granted. As soon as I was shed of my responsibilities in the states, I flew to the Philippines to find out what was out there.
What I found here has been awesome, its not perfect here but I have much more of a life here than I could have in the USA. It is just too costly to live in the US for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the USA. I miss it too. I wonder what it will feel like when I get back.
