Hillary Clinton to Become Secretary of State

Hillary Clinton has accepted the position of Secretary of State under Obama’s leadership.  Rumors have been flying for the last week or so that she was the likely pick and now it is official.

This is a smart move by Obama, this will keep her from running against him in 2012 and it shows his strength in dealing with people.  Picking people that have disagreed with him in the past and will do so in the future but finally follow the marching orders given to her by Obama.

I’m thrilled to see Obama picking very strong people for his team.  The problem I had with George H. Bush was his VP pick.  To me the choice of Dan Quail told me he was fearful of someone else over shadowing him.  There is nothing in Obama’s mannerism and actions thus far to show he has this issue.  His picks have been excellent.

It will be interesting to see if there will be pre-conditions set on meeting with certain officials from other countries.  I hope he keeps that pledge.  It is interesting because Hillary Clinton took him to task for that position during the debates.

This move is being called “gutsy and unconventional” by many.  She is not expected to have much trouble getting through the confirmation hearings because senators will likely confirm another senator.  She will probably run into questions about her husband’s international activities but it is not expected to be a problem as the former President Clinton has already made it clear he will do whatever Obama needed to allow his wife to take that position
