I’ve seen what Trickles Down
Let me Up, I’ve Had Enough!
Joe The Plumber, if you’re netting $250,000 a year you are rich. John McCain has been purposely trying to confuse people on this issue. Barrack Obama is not talking about gross receipts, lots of business take in $250,000 a year and make below $50,000. Some loose money. That is exactly the reason a flat tax on receipts is nonsense but that’s another issue.
If you’re making that kind of money, you’re really rich. Many doctors don’t make that. Yea you worked your butt off for it, you sure did. Heck I work my butt off for a LOT less. Fact is those making over $250,000 a year have a lot of disposable income. Those making $50,000 a year have almost no disposable income. They can’t spare a dime. I make a lot less, which forced me to leave the country.
So Joe, you can afford a small tax increase. Who would like it, you’ve worked hard, you’ve been smart and you’ve done well. That’s awesome. Sometimes people work hard, deserve just as much but things don’t work out for them. The system has worked for you.
Joe, I sure wish I had your problem of paying tax on $250,000!

I’m 100% Southern and consider that to be a good thing. I’m sorry for the people that don’t understand.
I grew up in Jackson, Mississippi where I went to Jim Hill High School and Millsaps College. I worked several jobs while going to college but most often could be found behind the counter at good old “Speed-E Food.” One of the most fun jobs I ever had, because of the people that lived in South Jackson.
After college, I went to work for the IRS as a Revenue Agent. I loved it and I was good at it but my health fell apart. I had to take a position of as a Functional Automation Coordinator, which was fancy Government speak for Computer Analyst.
I finally came to my senses. Decided working wasn’t a good idea for me and applied for disability. It was granted. As soon as I was shed of my responsibilities in the states, I flew to the Philippines to find out what was out there.
What I found here has been awesome, its not perfect here but I have much more of a life here than I could have in the USA. It is just too costly to live in the US for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the USA. I miss it too. I wonder what it will feel like when I get back.
I can def. see where you are coming from Rusty. But, what gives you the authority to decide whether he “can afford” it. Maybe he can’t, maybe he has a wife with a chorinic medical condition, and she requires 10,000 a month worth of heatlcare. You don’t know his circumstance yah know. I’m not saying your emotions are wrong. But the problem is, you or I for that matter, do not have the power to decide who makes too much, and who makes too less…Its not our job, and its not the governments either
Rusty I am with you on this one. I do folks taxes and I see the ones that make that sort of cash and you are so right not all businesses that have gross receipts of 250000 have profits that high after expenses. So the ones that do could afford a bit more in tax so that those that don’t could afford food and gas for their families. Don’t ya wish McCain would stop with all the crap talk and just talk about the issues so more folks could understand what each one wants to do. Geezzz I am 52 yrs old and tired of politics. Obama is the way for me and my family this time!
John, I think you proved my point. Even with a 10,000 a month medical expense Joe would still have $130,000 to spend as he pleased. I don’t know about you but I could live pretty darn good on that. And it would still be more money than over 80% of American make. It’s probably more than money than 95% of Americans make. I suspect the number is on the web but I don’t know it.
Also Joe is single, he is not licensed as a plumber and is not properly trained. After a little background on him, I suspect he does not understand the difference between gross receipts and net profit. That’s not meant as a slight on Joe at all. Such concepts are extremely basic to me but I have a degree in accounting and worked as a revenue agent for the IRS for around 10 years. I’m sure with my background in that field, that what seems obvious to me is not obvious too someone that is a plumber or fisherman or others that work with their hands. Just like I’m sure to Joe basic plumbing is easy for him, but I’d have no doubt what he is talking about if he used plumbing terms to talk to me.
Joe seems to an outstanding American and hard worker but Joe is just a symbol of what is out there. And as it turns out, there have been economist analyzing the situation and apply it to what we know about Joe and he’d have no tax increase at all.
I’m pretty certain Joe doesn’t have the cash lying around to buy a business netting $250,000 a year and that his chances of buying such a company are virtually nil since there is a strangle hold on credit.
This strangle hold has been caused by the policies of McCain and others pushing deregulation to the point that we now need to bailout the banks. And even McCain now speaks of regulations to prevent this mess that he helped to create in the first place.

Kris, I wish McCain had stayed true to who he is. If he started acting like who he is he might just pull this thing off yet. If he would come out and admit he’s let the handlers make him into someone he’s not and get rid of Palin those bold “Maverick” moves might just do him so good. But it is probably too late for him now.
Since I’m no longer living in the US, I have already voted. Two years ago I sure thought I’d be voting for McCain. I voted and it was for Obama.
Joe the plumber wouldn’t know a capitalist if he found him in a pipe.
