Expat Living In The Philippines
Just Back From Bantayan Island
Bantayan Island is Awesome
I haven’t posted for a few days cause I was having a wonderful time playing in sugar white sand. It was just awesome. I have over 100 new pictures, it may be 200 new pictures.
I didn’t tell anyone I was going, because of security concerns. Probably not wise to tell everyone in Cebu when I’ll be out of town overnight. Sorry for the lack of posting.
Expatriate or Expatriot?
I get a lot of questions about how I could leave the USA and move to another land where I have no family and no friends. A couple of days ago I received an email asking if I would be returning to the states since Obama won the election.
My leaving the US had nothing to do with politics, I do greatly prefer American politics. There are lots of reasons why people leave their home land and most of the time it is not because they have issues with their home land. I think in most cases, the people that leave their home countries for that reason will find plenty to not like in their new country.
Freak Storm In Bogo City
If I seem to be missing in action, it is because we had a freak storm in Bogo City this morning. Winds came out of no place and knocked all the lights in the city out and blew down some trees, some that made it through Typhoon Frank.
I have been offline today because of that. We have had no electricity. I’m at an internet cafe now. Mostly to cool off. The temperature was abnormally low all day today and here at the cafe many Pinoy are wearing light jackets. Its about 27C or well above 75F. I suppose when your use to 80F it seems cold to them. I’m still hot. i need to returned to walking more as I finally am back to myself, I hope.
Hospital Visit Postponed Again
Medical Issues For an Expat
I finally got my mind set for it. I finally accepted I needed to do it and couldn’t get out of it. Then i called the insurance company to make sure everything was setup. I asked if I had a $100 deductible and was told I had a $100 per day deductible. I could have sworn that had been done away with. I just can’t justify spending $300 to $500 right now. There are too many other issues. I will look into the possibility of different insurance but I’m probably stuck with what I have for now and there may be nothing better. Hard to say, what I need in the states may be different from here. I’d have to pay 20% of a hospital room in the states, but $100 will pay for about three days in a Philippine Hospital so 20% would be better unless there was some kind of surgery then perhaps I’m better off with the $100 per day.
Hospital Visit?
I have a scheduled date with a Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City for 8/19/08. I hope it is not a date that I actually keep though. Time will tell. I’m still trying to arrange for my medical insurance to be billed directly. Chong Hua has said nope but they suggested a third party that can handle it. So the insurance company is looking into that. I made the date to be admitted because the insurance was reluctant to do any thing until after I was admitted. Perhaps this will help. If this doesn’t get things done, then I’ll have to find another doctor and hospital.
