Making Money With AdSense
Improved AdSense Click Through Rate
Wow, after adding skyscraper ads to my websites my Adsense success has soared. This month I’ve already reached one half the number of clicks I did for the entire prior month.
The biggest change I made is adding skyscraper ads and those are clicked about 10 times as often as my other ads. I had been relying on an Adsense Plugin for WordPress to present my ads. I was including three ads per page via the plugin.
I changed that to one auto generated AdSense ad via the plugin and placed a skyscraper ad on the right navigation column. Even more central to my sudden increased performance is placing ads in more than one location.
In hindsight, that seems abundantly obvious. If the ads are in more than one place they are far more likely to grab the visitors attention. Also, by placing an ad in the sidebar there is always an AdSense unit on the page. And the AdSense unit is rather prominent.
I hope to ad a large rectangle ad to each page without making the site ugly and without violating AdSense terms of service.
Adsense Terms of Service (TOS)
Not violating AdSense Terms of Service (TOS) can be quite a chore. You should take an active part in educating your friends and family. Tell them to not click on your ads unless they see something that really interest them. If they are using the same IP address or computer that you are using they should NEVER click on your ads. Asking people to click on your ads will be more obvious to Google than you may think. The behavior is different than it would be for someone that is truly interested in the site the ad is linked too.
You should also use some type of software that monitors your website and clicks on your AdSense links and the IPs that generated the links. You also need to know how they found your site. If they went straight to your site and clicked every ad on your site, say 5 seconds apart for each click that’s a clear indication that they are either someone trying to help you out or someone that is angry with you and is trying to get you banned from AdSense. Sadly it could be a competitor. It is essential that you monitor this kind of activity.
I recently found a service that is in beta and is free at this time.
I am not associated with them in any way, nor do I earn anything by you visiting their site. Some of their service will become pay only but they intended to keep there service free to some extent. Once out of beta they intend to charge for parts of their service but the basics will still be free. I highly recommend them.
Just because someone clicks on your links more than one time, doesn’t mean that they are being malicious. Other things to consider would be how long they spent on the advertisers site before clicking again. Did they go direct to your site or did they use a search engine to get there. In my mind, someone that found your site via a search engine would indicate they are not up to malicious activity even with clicks on more than one ad.
However, if they keep coming back to your site, you should ban them from your site. WordPress provides a tool by which you can do that. If you access Cpanel there is an option to ban an IP. In most cases, you should consnider banning the entire ISP. If you don’t know how to do that, post a comment and I will try to post an article on how to do that.
As I have said in the past, what is important is content. People will only visit your site if you have contents. the more content the better. It needs to be original. This takes time. Try to write an article a day. If you do that you’ll have 365 articles in a year and in 10 years you’ll have 36,000 articles. You”ll see traffic coming long before you have even 365 articles. You have to start small and grow over time.
