I recently wrote an article about how to get started blogging. Most people are looking to earn some money from
their efforts. Nothing wrong with that. Don’t expect too much too fast and expect setbacks. When setbacks
happen you have to just keep plugging away, analyze whats going on and look for way to overcome.
After you’ve added some content to your site, enough so that it doesn’t look nor indicate it is under construction, you can apply to some programs that will earn you some money.
Click on the banner below and check out the LinkShare program. I’ve been a member of LinkShare for over ten years. I’ve made some money with it
It is important though to get your website up with content on it before you apply to specific advertisers. They wont approve you until you’ve done that. They may also reject you if you’re using a free website host. Having your own domain name and a low cost paid hosting is highly recommended. I get my hosting from HostGator.com
It is always important to not expect to get rich quick through affiliate marketing which is what LinkShare provides. To make money on the web you need traffic to your website and lots of it. Lots of traffic takes time you can do it a lot of work but you can do it.
If you’re an American, you should go to IRS.GOV and apply for an employer identification number. This will help protect you from identity theft. All reputable affiliate programs will ask for your taxpayer identification number. You can give them your social security number but I avoid doing that. I think I gave it to LinkShare as they are a well known company that will safeguard your data. I’ve seen affiliate shops though that I would not give my social security number too. Instead you can give them your EIN which wont assist someone in obtaining your other personal information. You can get it at the IRS site online in about 10 minutes or less. I would search for apply for EIN online once your at their site.

Go post Rusty,
its also important to remember that blogging should be more about enjoyment than trying to make a living though. Every expat that has come to the Philippines recently seems to set one up. So finding something unique for readers is a major factor as well, its not easy to make money out of blogs not enough to retire on anyway but it is a good sideline hobby to keep people occupied and also to get them involved in things they wouldn’t normally do.
Everyone has their own reasons.
However, I’ve never had anyone send me threats because i don’t go take pictures or go girl watching. I like to do those hobbies but no one is yelling at me if I don’t do it.
The net is a hobby, computes are a hobby, writing on demand is not. Yesz
Actually I may be traumatized when it comes to writing. It happened when my Freshman Comp professor handed me my paper and said, “well you finally did it.” I thought oh boy, I finally got it right Laugh, it was an F. LOL Traumatized for life.
Most everyone is very nice and encouraging but you should see some of the demands I get. :) This article was intended for those people. I was also in a very bad mood when I wrote it so it came out a little harsher than intended.
I had a couple of massive threats. I don’t know if I would have started this though if there were no profit motive. I don’t expect to get rich doing this. I also didn’t expect of it to become a job.
Was in a bad mood and got a threat and well, rather than reply to them directly, I posted something here. I’m writing an article about that. My bad mood.
Nobody owes me a thing but I don’t OWE anyone. There are a lot of bloggers out there and most have PayPal donation links on their site. Nearly all have profit in mind.
I’d rather go girl watching and take my camera. :) Now that’s a hobby I’d pay to do. :)
And now that you’ve given me your two cents, send me five dollars? LOL I’m only kidding on that one. :) I kind of like it though, its funny. I can’t post the comments I got that spurred this message. :) Google would ban me if I i did. :)
First think I see on your site? Donate. You’re not writing as a hobby.
